VMworld Kopenhagen 2010

The VMworld Kopenhagen 2010 has come to it’s end after 3-4 days (depending whom you ask; 4 days for me) of intense breakout sessions, hands-on labs, round table discussions and solutions exchange. For me it has not only been 4 days of learning, but also contained adventure.

In my picture series, you will see more of the latter, because pictures of breakout sessions are boring, same about the labs, since the hardware was no longer on-site, but all was conducted through the hybrid could, in the US, where the hardware was ready, of course using VMware View 4.5 and some Alpha version of the PCoIP gateway, which is now able to tunnel the UDP traffic through encrypted services, which is keen and astounding at the same time, since the labs were through out 4 days rock-stable!

Putins Werbefahrt

Putin auf Werbefahrt für Lada und in eigener Sache. Das staatliche Fernsehen begleitet ihn auf seiner Tour mit einem kanariengelben Lada Kalina (“Sportwagen”) und zeigt ihn, wie er selber tankt und einen Lappen vom Tankwart holt um die Scheibe zu putzen. Er möchte damit zeigen “ich bin einer von euch”, einer vom Volk und packe zu.

In dem Video wird sein regelrechter Konvoi jedoch von Mitgliedern des Autoclub “Diversant” gefilmt und entlarvt dabei den Aufwand der mit Steuergeldern getrieben wird: Es sind mindestens 3 gleichartige gelbe Ladas und einer davon wird sogar auf einem Abschleppwagen mitgefahren – ebenfalls nicht zu verachten der Tross von ausländischen Geländewagen und Polizeieskorte.

Miracle happend – 1 month

Its was April , one of this nice and warm spring months which makes u always feel better after the loooong and cold winter here. We were planning of having a baby already 2 months ago. I’m honestly happy of the idea but somehow the whole thing scares me. After reading the whole bunch of crap online I decide to leave this month all this days counting Ovulation hunting and temperature messing. I start to get obsessed of them somehow very fast. People say just enjoy and RELAX. The last one was not really correct in this month for me. I was preparing again to hold my tests for the Uni ZH and the whole learning makes me really tired and nervous. And Jonas has a birthday and like a rule every year in the end of April me make huge Party because of that. This year was a bit special because we were celebrating as well our new home. So somehow the little miracle happened somewhere between the parties and every day learning. Somewhere at the beginning of May I start to feel funny, was tired start to eat strange amount of cucumbers, somehow my body was different. But I was thinking” again some nasty PMS “. Then my period is late … hmm ok 1 day late not considers making a test but probably 3 is enough. I need to be patient the last 2 months I use to have as well some fake alarms. And because of that I use all the nice pregnancy tests which I use to have.

Sunday 15^th of May my period is 5 days late. Yes now is the time J I woke up pretty early this morning, was drinking coffee waiting Jonas to woke up and to go shopping and to take the test. So we went to Migros in the early afternoon, then we was searching like 10 min. between the shelves where exactly this guys was hiding condoms and tests.( All the time I find it very funny why here in Switzerland they put the pregnancy tests next to the condoms and glide gels just look like “ Hey guys make safe sex otherwise u will need to use one of this colourful pens ” ) Anyway after 10 min searching Jonas went and asks a woman where the condoms are. . We took pack of 2 and some other food and drive to home. It’s a test timeJ

While I was making the test Jonas sits in front of the compy and starts to talk with some game buddies or whatever. I left the test in the kitchen to wait few minutes to get the results. 3-4 minutes passed and I sow really good 2^nd stripe ….upeeeee .Then showing to Jonas with the words “ You are going to be a father “ , but the reaction was a bit… Are u sure? Is it correct the test? OK. Turning his back continuing playing some stuff. Not the most romantic way which I was somehow expecting. Oh well he need time. The Guys are different, besides the idea of becoming father need to be assimilated for a bit. He was somehow disturbed, and I was happy, the happiest person in the world. But Im sure he will be the best father later I love you schatzliiii

Screen black, burnt smell and steaming hot air coming out of the case – the fan broke and the power supply got busted! What to do?

My original Arctic Silentium T2 had a built-in custom factored PSU, which made it nearly impossible to replace it, without spare parts from the supplier (which are not available by our vendor).

While I’m not the case modder freak or anything, my only option was to buy a new case which was a worthy replacement and not too expensive and my eye (and feature sense) fell in love with the Cooler Master Storm Scout.

After assembling it carefully over hours, I’m quite convinced of that rig. I thought I could as well share some pictures…

I must add, that the cooling which the new case offers is enormous and specially for gaming and when the air around it becomes hotter, this is the ideal solution as you can basically fit in as many fans as anyone could think of.

Nach Schreckstunden, ärgerlichen und auch frustrierenden Nachrichten und Zwischenfällen sind wir froh nun 4x viel Glück zum Geburtstag zu wünschen!

Ja, richtig Jinxy hat einerseits heute ihren ersten Geburtstag und hat gleichzeitig 3 Welpen das Leben geschenkt!

After troublesome, hassling and also frustrating news and incidents, Jinxy, who has her first birthday today herself, gave birth to 3 younglings!

It was early in the morning when she started to give birth – Gaby already witnessed quite a few times how her earlier cat (in Bulgaria) gave natural birth to many kitten and thus calmed me down and we went to sleep again and left Jinxy to give birth, in hope that we could collect them in the morning – we assumed it would take a bit longer, because it’s her first birth.

Früh am Morgen haben bei Jinxy die Wehen eingesetzt und die Geburt stand unmittelbar bevor; wir sehen schon ein Bein und Schwänzchen raushängen; Gaby hatte schon ein paar natürliche Geburten ihrer früheren Katze beobachtet und auch in den Foren stand, dass die erste Geburt etwas zähe sein kann. Also gingen wir nach kurzer Zeit wieder ins Bett, in guter Hoffnung, dass wir sie am Morgen dann den ganzen Haufen zusammensammeln könnten.

But everything came differently; it was morning around 7:30 and when I checked out Jinxy, I realized that the first kitten was still stuck in her vagina,with the head and front legs still in and I assumed it was already dead! We prepared to leave and called our veterinary immediately at 8 – we didn’t realize the full extend of the troubles at hand yet. I thought they’d just remove the stuck kitten and the cat could then proceed with birth.

Aber alles kam anders – morgens um 7:30 Uhr hab ich Jinxy besucht und sie hatte das erste Kätzchen erst halb rausgepresst, bloss der Unterleib hing ihr aus der Vagina und wir nahmen an, dass es schon tot war! Wir machten uns bereit zu gehen und riefen unseren Tierarzt in der Kleintierklinik um 8 Uhr sofort an – ich war mir der vollen Ausmasse der Situation noch nicht gewahr. Ich dachte die würden das Kätzchen entfernen und dann könnte die Katze mit der Geburt fortfahren.

I told the the assistant at the phone very clear about the situation our cat is in, and she was very calm, even pointed out that this stuck kitten was probably dead already (sic!) and that we should come in for 9 o’clock, there would be only few vaccination patients before that time and we’d could speak the doctor then. So we drove there and they left us to wait even some time after 9 and after I was making some pressure then, she went to talk to the doctor and suddenly we could come in straight to the doctor! She (the doctor) then only took a quick look and tried some lubricant to get the dead kitten out, but since that didn’t work, she had the assistant informing the emergency station of the local animal hospital and mentioned that we should have proceeded there like yesterday already. Gee, thanks for making us wait there yet, practice assistants probably learn nothing but typing and answering telephones!

Ich hatte der Praxisassistentin am Telefon die Situation klipp und klar geschildert und sie machte mich sogar darauf aufmerksam, dass das raushängende Kätzchen wohl tot sei (sic!). Sie bat uns in die Klinik und meinte um 9 Uhr könnten wir mit der Ärztin sprechen, zuvor wären bloss ein paar Impfpatienten eingetragen. Also fuhren wir dorthin und sie liessen uns sogar etwas nach 9 Uhr warten, bis ich dann die Situation nochmals zeigte und plötzlich gings schnell und wir konnten direkt zur Frau Doktor! Sie probierte zwar das Kätzchen noch mit etwas Gleitmittel zu entfernen und durchtrennte auch dessen Nabelschnur, aber nichts half. Die Assistentin wurde nun angewiesen die Notaufnahme des Tierspital Zürich zu informieren und wir hätten dort eigentlich schon gestern sein sollen! Super Praxisassistentin – bis auf tippen und telefonieren lernen die wohl nichts!

Luckily, the animal hospital (Tierspital) of Zurich was just barely 10 minutes from the clinic and we scrambled for the emergency room with Jinxy. The doctor and surgeon made a quick triage of her and we filled out the obligatory forms at the counter. After this we could step in and talked to the treating surgeon which was a bit aroused and concerned by the state of the cat and told us that we came in very late; she will have to make a Cesarian section and remove her uterus (aww!) and depending on the state of the kitten (surviving or not) they’d have to stay a bit longer. They sent us home/to office, since the surgery took about 2 hours. We got a call then around noon, that Jinxy (the mother cat) was fine, but they were unsure about the whelps and they had to stay until evening. Finally they called us around 6 that we could fetch them and that it would look all fine now! The result you can admire on the pictures in the gallery linked below.

Glücklicherweise war das Tierspital Zürich gleich um die Ecke und in kaum 10 Minuten waren wir in der Notaufnahme mit Jinxy. Die Ärztin und Chirurgin, machte eine kurze Triage, während wir die Formulare am Schalter ausfüllten. Danach konnten wir hinein und sprachen mit der behandelnden Chirurgin, welche ab dem Zustand der Katze erregt und besorgt war; sie meinte wir kämen sehr spät. Sie müsse einen Kaiserschnitt durchführen und die Gebärmutter entfernen (oje!) und je nach dem Zustand der Kätzchen (überlebend oder nicht) müssten alle noch ein bisschen bleiben. Sie schickten uns heim resp. ins Büro, weil die Operation ca. 2 Stunden dauerte. Wir bekamen einen Anruf am Mittag, dass Jinxy (Mutterkatze) über dem Berg wäre, aber sie seien noch nicht sicher wegen den Welpen und dass die ganze Familie bis am Abend bleiben müsste. Schliesslich bekamen um 6 Uhr bescheid, dass wir alle zusammen abholen könnten und es für alle gut aussähe! Das Resultat könnt ihr in der Gallery (Link unten) bewundern!
